What is Hospice Care?

A support and care services for people with life limiting diseases which may no longer be responsive to cure-oriented therapies, such as cancer and chronic obstructive airway disease.

Services are provided by a team of multi disciplinary professionals including doctors, nurses, social workers, psychologists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, spiritual counsellors and volunteers.

Offers holistic care for the person approaching end of life and their family, including physical, emotional and spiritual support.

Emphasize pain and symptom relief, so that a person may live the last days of life, with dignity and comfort.
What is Palliative Care?

Aims to relieve pain and distress, not limited to a certain diagnosis or stage of illness

Not only practiced in a hospice or palliative care unit. But a palliative care team can also be consulted to alleviate a person's discomfort in any setting.
ˇ§Hospice and Palliative Careˇ¨ provides the following range of services

Home Care: Medical and support services for patients who are staying at home.

In-patient care: Medical and support services within a speicalised unit in a hospital or independent hospice center.

Out-patient clinic & Day care: Services provided in a specialised unit or clinic where patients come for therapy, activities or counseling during the day.

Bereavement support: Counseling and support to families who are facing death of a loved one; this service may be received from any hospice units, hospital and the community. (eg: the Jessie and Thomas Tam Centre)
The charges on ˇ§Hospice and Palliative Careˇ¨ services:

The charge is the same as other services in Hospital Authority

The current in-patient charge is HK$68 per day.

The home visit and day care fee is HK$60 per visit.

The out-patient clinic is HK$60 per visit.
